Studio Vermiljoen is a small, independent ceramic studio based in Bruges (Belgium), founded by Millie Hemelsoen (formerly Kudzu Webshop). From my studio, I create each piece by hand, from clay to mug, with great attention to form, colour and finish.

Vermiljoen came into being after a period of pause in my life. A time when I learned to slow down and make space again. In that quiet moment, the urge to create grew — and above all, to let colour back in. What started as a personal process slowly evolved into a studio where colour, playfulness and softness are ever-present.

Ceramics fit perfectly into that story. It is a slow, tactile process that invites experimentation, curiosity and joy in the making. That playful exploration lives in every piece I create.

I work consciously and without mass production. Small variations in shape and colour are part of the process and make each object unique. No two pieces are exactly the same and that is exactly what handmade is all about.

The colours are no coincidence. They bring lightness, warmth and a touch of joy. They form a counterbalance to darkness, which is also allowed to exist. With each piece, I hope to bring a little colour outward: into your home, onto your table, or simply to offer a small smile along the way.
